Are We Really Taking Full Advantage of Organic Matter?

In this opinion article, Vicente Galván analyzes one of the great challenges of the circular economy: the proper management of organic matter and biowaste. Through a technical and well-founded approach, he reflects on the main normative and regulatory challenges that affect its valorization and advocates the need to incorporate a greater scientific basis and a technologically neutral vision into the debate.

The author highlights the enormous potential of organic matter as a resource for the production of compost, biogas, and biomethane, inviting the reader to reflect on how to maximize its use to move towards a more efficient, sustainable waste management model aligned with decarbonization and circular economy goals.

Vicente Galván, has extensive experience in the industry, waste management, and the circular economy.

He hold responsibilities in both the business sector and public administration, where he was Director General of Circular Economy for the Community of Madrid. Additionally, he combines his professional experience with teaching and outreach activities as a professor in university master's programs and a regular speaker at specialized conferences and events.
